Sheboygan Non-Con 2018

Geeks a Gogo braved the snows and took another trip up to Sheboygan, WI for Sheboygan Non-Con 4--the small, regional RPG-fest held by Stormbunny Studios. This year was another great weekend of great food from the 8th Street Ale Haus, great beer from New Holland Brewery, and awesome role-playing games.

Again this year, as with every year, the food at 8th St. Ale Haus was a amazing (some of the best cheese curds we've ever had!), and they served up some of the best breakfasts (with amazing bloody marys) that we could hope for, from the English breakfast to the steak and eggs--making it some of the best convention food that we've ever had in our years of going to many, many gaming and events. On top of that, the beer lineup from New Holland breweries was fantastic, with our favorites being two Dragon's Milk stout flavors--the triple mash, and the salted caramel.

Many attendees even had the pleasure of playing tabletop RPGs that were run by game designers who had created them. We had the good fortune of being able to participate in a session of horror story-telling game, Splintered Godhood, run by the game's creator, Clinton Boomer. There were plenty of other small table games going on, with people running Pathfinder and related variants such as Blood Lines and Black Magic, and Rhune (both from Stormbunny Studios). There were a lot of board games and even some Star Wars X-Wing games going on as well.

One of the big features this year was an amazing and massive display of 3D dungeon terrain that was all part of a playable Dungeons and Dragons scenario. Stormbunny Studios founder and creator of Non-Con, Jaye Sonia ran play test of his upcoming release Rhune: Dawn of Twilight for 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons. We played through an amazing mega-dungeon with incredible 3D terrain by Dwarven Forge.

Of course, as is tradition at Non-Con, the event featured it's signature tabletop war games: the battle for New Holland and the Battle of Hoth. Both are custom games with amazingly realistic miniature 3D scentery, with incredible details, and armies of miniatures, including some amazing AT-AT Walkers from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, and some beautifully painted dragon miniatures for the Battle for New Holland game.

On top of all the gaming, there of course, was the chance to buy some new gaming materials from Frost Giant Games, which we did, finally picking up a copy of Pugmire (review to come soon). Of course, the chance to just relax and watch others play, with one of the many beers on tap. The gaming area had its own bar, int addition to the selections from the full bar next door.
