Zombie Monday: Geeksagogo.com recently spoke with Michael Guthas, who coordinates media relations for Walker Stalker – a convention has celebrated all things zombie since 2013. We fielded “Gooth” a few questions as he prepared for Walker Stalker’s Aug. 23 Boston event, which not-too-surprisingly corresponded with the premiere of AMC’s new Walking Dead spin-off Fear the Walking Dead.
Walker Stalker events will be held in Philadelphia in September, and in New York/New Jersey in December. Further information is available at http://www.thewalkerstalkers.com/about/.
Geeksagogo: How many of these events have you held?
Guthas: We have 10 events across the world, traveling throughout the United States, a cruise to the Bahamas, and to the U.K. where we will hold our first international event in London.
Geeksagogo: Is this strictly for Walking Dead fans or will it also highlight other facets of the zombie genre?
Guthas: The Walking Dead is our primary focus, but it is not where we stop as far as the genre goes. We have guests from Bitten, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Then we have guests from other genres like, Lost, Breaking Bad, The Vampire Diaries, and Doctor Who.
Geeksagogo: What inspired the event?
Guthas: Walker Stalker Con is the fruit of Skybound's The Walking Dead Presents The Walker Stalkers Podcast. The podcast began with an amazing trip to Senoia, GA where James (Frazier) and Eric (Nordhoff) were able to view the set of The Walking Dead and meet the incredible actors from the show. As a result of this experience, a podcast began and then the idea of a convention focused around recreating that same experience with the cast and crew of the show, along with talented actors and artists from other zombie shows, movies and art. Geeksagogo: Is this event connected to any philanthropic efforts like zombie walks?
Guthas: We have in the past, just depends on the city we are in.
(Editorial note: James Frazier and Daniel Thomas May who was Alan in the third season of The Walking Dead will he doing a live podcast after each episode of Fear the Walking Dead).
